NIMHANS Psychiatric Social Worker and Clinical Psychologist Jobs
In a world that hurries along on loud engines and glowing screens, there remains quiet work to be done — work of the mind, of the heart and of the soul. And it is to such a calling that the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru now extends its hand.
For those trained in Psychiatric Social Work or Clinical Psychology, a noble opportunity has been made public. These are not posts to chase for mere comfort or title. No, these are stations of service, meant for persons who have studied the human condition and are prepared to meet it with knowledge, skill and compassion.

Let us now turn our minds toward the particulars.
The Institution – NIMHANS
NIMHANS is not unknown to most who walk the path of mental health in this country. As an Institute of National Importance, it holds a place of distinction — both for its research and for its dedication to the care of patients. To serve here is not just to practice a profession but to contribute to a legacy of healing and understanding.
It all started in the year 1847 in the city of Bangalore, during the days of British rule, a small asylum was built (was called the Bangalore Lunatic Asylum)for those who were troubled in mind. In those days, there was little understanding of mental illness. T
By 1925, the place’s name and purpose had changed. It became the Mysore Government Mental Hospital. This shift showed that people had begun to think differently. The idea of treatment had taken root. There was now some belief that mental suffering could be eased with proper care and medical help.
A great moment came in 1954. The government of newly independent India built a new institute for mental health. It was previously known as the All India Institute of Mental Health, or AIIMH for short. This new institute aimed to treat patients and investigate the causes of mental health problems. It brought learning and healing together under one roof
In 1974, a change occurred, as a result of which the future’s form changed. The AIIMH and the old hospital were joined into one body. A new name was given — National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, or NIMHANS. It became a place not only of treatment, but of study and research. Minds from across the country came to learn and serve.
Time moved on, and in 1994, the institute was given the power to run its own courses. It no longer had to follow the rules of other universities. It could now teach and examine on its own, guiding those who came to study the human mind.
Then came a high honour in 2012. NIMHANS was declared an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament. This was not just a title — it was a mark of trust. The country had come to depend on this place for its work in mental health and brain science.
From its early days as a quiet asylum under foreign rule to its present place as a centre of knowledge and care, the growth of NIMHANS has been steady and strong. Built not in haste, but with patience and deep effort, it now stands as a place where science and service walk side by side.
Those who look at its story will see not just buildings and names, but years of work, of learning, and of care for the human spirit.
